Earth Day Concert & Plant Sale

Bring the whole family to this Earth Day Celebration! Purchase native garden plants offered by local nurseries including Natives in Harmony, Leaves for Wildlife, and Riverside Trees and Nursery. Plus, savor food truck cuisine, and partake in other Earth Day activities.

At 3 p.m., enjoy a free Banana Slug String Band concert, a nationally renowned children’s band coming from California to share original earth loving lyrics geared for kids and parents alike.

The Banana Slug String Band has been playing music for kids for over 39 years. they have played in 40 states, and 5 Countries, for over 2 Million people. They have released 12 award winning CDs. Their music is used in School curriculums and classes around the World. The slugs have brought their musical messages to noted festivals such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, and their home festival, Strawberry Music Festival, which they have played nearly 40 times! 

Their Live show is legendary, and include characters such as; the Professor, Doug the Drop, Peter the Penguin, Mr. Dirt the puppet, Louie the Crab, and Big Red, the talking Redwood Tree. These characters come out in full body costume to the amazement of all. The songs are all original, and played in a variety of catchy musical styles…from Folk to Blues to reggae, Rock and Roll and Rap. The songs are educational, funny and deeply moving. Kids come away, inspired, and ready to learn more about the Earth.

The Slugs are Environmental Educators, and met teaching in Outdoor Education in San Mateo county, working at Env. Ed. Schools deep in the Redwoods. Solar Steve and Marine Mark are currently the Administrators and directors of San Mateo county outdoor Ed.

Doug Dirt, Airy Larry, Marine Mark, and Solar Steve are the Real Deal…..Impassioned musicians, songwriters, performers, educators, and eco-warriors! With guitars, voices, crazy characters, and an extraordinary ability to connect with children…. they change the world, one child at a time!

FLEX Trails (Free Local EXercise)

FLEX Trails are established along the trails at Char-Mar Ridge Preserve. Stations set up along the trails include signs that explain how to do various exercises, right there, with no equipment

Geocaching in Preservation Parks

Geocaching and letterboxing are fun hobbies that provide a great reason to enjoy the outdoors. Preservation Parks does allow geocaches and letterboxes to be placed in the parks, as long as Park District guidelines are followed.

Photography Contest

The photo contest is open to all amateur photographers, youth to adult.  Amateur is defined as someone who derives less than 50% of their annual income from the sale of photographs or photographic works.
