With gratitude Preservation Parks remembers the legacy of public servant, Jon Peterson

Jon Peterson

Preservation Parks of Delaware County honors the life of Ohio House of Representative, Jon Peterson, who recently passed away. Jon is remembered for serving the people of Delaware County and Ohio in outstanding and significant ways throughout his long career as a politician and public servant. Indeed, Jon Peterson was an early advocate for Preservation Parks of Delaware County and his support helped our organization secure our first sources of funding.

While serving as Delaware County Auditor, Jon Peterson helped convince the Delaware County Commissioners to allocate a modest amount of funds in 1989 to our emerging park district. When that funding was discontinued after three years, Jon’s devoted advocacy was instrumental in securing continued funding from the State of Ohio.  Preservation Parks relied on this funding source until we passed our first property tax levy in 1999.

“Delaware County would not be the special place that it is today without Jon Peterson’s many contributions.” (Delaware Gazette). All of us who enjoy visiting our wonderful Preservation Parks can hike in gratitude.
