Yes, you heard right, the Ice Age is ending … well, at least Into the Ice Age at Preservation Parks is ending. Our year-long theme is drawing quickly to a close this last weekend of October. The Burning Tree Mastodon, the elk moose, short-faced bear, woolly mammoth, and even the quaking bog will take their leave, making way for Adventures in Flight arriving in 2018.
We want to thank all of the visitors who helped make the Into the Ice Age a huge success. More than 19,000 people visited both the Deer Haven and Shale Hollow Park exhibits, with countless others participating in programs and the Ice Age Safari. We couldn’t be more pleased with the interest and great comments we received from visitors. The interactions that our staff and volunteers had with visitors created many lasting memories.
I can’t say enough about the passion and hard work our staff put into the programs and exhibits. But we also couldn’t have done it without the help of our many partners. We want to thank the Geauga Park District, the Orton Geological Museum at The Ohio State University, The Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center at The Ohio State University, the Ohio History Connection, The Antiquities Company and the Burning Tree Golf Course for their efforts in helping us put together great programs and fun educational exhibits.
We are already planning our 2018 Adventures in Flight programs and exhibits and are excited by the possibilities. Flight themed programs will start with our winter schedule and continue throughout 2018. Exhibits will again be housed at Deer Haven and Shale Hollow Parks, and new next year will be an exhibit at Gallant Farm, related to the history of flight. Exhibits will help us kick off the summer, opening Memorial Day weekend. So be on the lookout for all of this flying your way from Preservation Parks in 2018.
