Summer Letterbox Adventure

Summer Letterbox Adventure is back for 2025

Get ready to win a fun prize pack just by exploring parks close to home. Find at least 4 letterboxes at any park to win a prize, while supplies last.

The adventure begins in your local parks SATURDAY, MAY 24.

What is a letterbox adventure? Great question! A letterbox adventure is another form of geocaching and scavenger hunting using clues instead of coordinates. Once you find the hidden letterbox (think school pencil box), there’s a small activity to show you’ve found it and a notebook to leave a message for the next person who finds it.

Here’s how to Letterbox!
Adults, stop in any Delaware County library or at Deer Haven Park to sign up and get a Summer Letterbox booklet for you and/or your family. OR you may create an account on our online program registration platform (beginning May 24) and register for the program to receive the PDF booklet. Please only register once either at a library, Deer Haven Park, or online. Deer Haven’s hours are 12 p.m.- 5 p.m. daily.

Take a pencil, marker, etc. with you on each letterbox hunt.

Visit each park during the summer and follow the clues to find the letterbox. Once you find the letterbox, there will be symbol inside it this year. Participants can trace, draw, or write what the symbol is in the designated space on each park page. Then, you can write a note to other letterboxers on the notepad inside the box.

TO REGISTER— pick up your booklet at the Wornstaff Memorial Public LibrarySunbury Community Library, or any branch of the Delaware County District Library (Delaware, Lewis Center, Ostrander or Powell) OR register online at preservationparks.recdesk.com. This is a 2-step process. First, create an account and then register for the program to receive a PDF Letterbox booklet. No matter how you register, you only need to do it once.

Important!
After you are done, put the letterbox back exactly where you found it and leave no sign that you were there, so the next searcher can have as  much fun as you did.

After you’ve found 4 or more boxes, bring the booklet to the one of the Delaware County libraries or Deer Haven Park to pick up your prize, while supplies last.

Park rules are posted at preservationparks.com, but here are some basic ones to follow:
• Stay on the trails unless a clue tells you to leave the trail.
• Take only pictures; leave only footprints.
• Dogs are allowed on most nature trails (exceptions: all of Gallant Farm, Deer Haven Park, and one trail at Shale Hollow Park – check park maps for information). Pets must be on a leash and you must clean up after them.
• Parks are open 8 a.m.- 9 p.m. every day, except Gallant Farm. Gallant Farm is closed Monday and open Tues – Sat 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun 12-5 p.m.; these are the only times to search for the letterbox there. This information applies ONLY to Gallant Farm.

Visit the Parks & Trails page for location and directions to each park.
