Western films and tv shows were one of the most popular entertainment genres from the 1930s-1950s, and music from westerns were inspired directly from the campfire music of the time.
In the late 1940s, a National Park Service ranger, songwriter, and Hollywood consultant, Stan Jones, sang Ghost Riders in the Sky to Hollywood location scouts and it soon became Jones’ most famous song.
