Night Light Hike

Love, Light, and Recycling
A Luminary Walk for Valentine’s Weekend

By Saundra McBrearty, Outreach and Volunteer Specialist

On Valentine’s weekend, Preservation Parks will shine a light on recycling to celebrate our love for planet Earth. We will light up the trail with candle luminaries made of plastic milk jugs. The free self-guided Valentine’s weekend evening walks will take place at Gallant Woods Park 6-7 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, February 13 & 14.

With visitor health and safety in mind, the approximately one-mile-long gravel trail will be one-way. In addition, we do ask that everyone attend only with their household group, wear facial coverings during the walk and maintain safe physical distancing.  And to make the walk even more enjoyable, please dress for cold weather and wear sturdy footwear.

Demonstrating love for planet Earth, Preservation Parks is committed to using environmentally sustainable products and processes throughout the park district. Did you know that we have park benches, picnic tables, trash cans and recycling receptacles throughout the park district that are made of recycled materials?

Plastic milk jugs turn into our park benches which are made from over 90% recycled material. The bench seat is made from 100% recycled plastic milk jugs, and the steel components are made from 80% recycled material such as old railroad rails.

Plastic drink containers turn into our trash cans and recycling receptacles. Our trash and recycling cans are made from high density polyethylene, which is derived from post-consumer bottle waste.

Bring your loved ones to enjoy these evening hikes at Gallant Woods and celebrate on a trail lit with luminaries made of what may one day be another park bench.

Gallant Woods Park is located at 2151 Buttermilk Hill Road, Delaware, Ohio 43015.
